Just like the Grecian historical setting, the origin of Japan is based on their own mythological narrative. According to the Kojiki or the Japanese "Record of Ancient Things", the landmass of Japan, consisting of eight regions, was believed to be the children of deities Izanami and Izanagi. Did you know that Japan has no definite foundation day or an independence day? Since no one knows the exact date when Japan has started, and it hasn’t been occupied by any foreign nation, the Japanese celebrates their “National Foundation Day” every February 11, based on the accession of their first emperor, Jimmu, and the start of Yamato Dynasty.
Even Emperor Jimmu is regarded as a demigod, as he was believed to be the son of Amaterasu Ōmikami, the sun goddess. More so, the Yamato dynasty, which was the longest continuous hereditary monarchy in the world, started their ruling as the Imperial Family on 660 BC, and adding up more breadth to their 2600 years of history. Now, the Emperor Akihito, the 125th emperor of Japan reigning since January 7, 1989, heads the oldest monarchy in the world together with his spouse, Empress Michiko.
