Although most cities in Japan have normal weather throughout the year, there is still a distinctive change from north to south. To check the climate of a certain city, one must refer to these key zones and identify where the city belongs: Hokkaido, Central Highland, Pacific Ocean, Sea of Japan, Seto Inland Sea, Ryuku Islands.

Japan has four seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter. The timetable for each are:

Spring – 1st week of February to 1st week of May
Summer – 1st week of May to 1st week of August
Autumn – 1st week of August to 1st week of November
Winter – 1st week of November to 1st week of February
