Post a photo of an onigiri or a Japanese rice ball on your social media accounts, until November 30, and help a non-profit organization, Table for Two (TFT), give meals to hungry children in Africa and Asia.
The project was launched as a campaign for the celebration of World Food Day on Sunday, October 16.
Project mechanics. Photo from Table for Two official website.
Participants can post any picture about onigiri: eating, preparing, making, or sharing. With each onigiri photo uploaded on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, using the hashtag #OnigiriAction, 5 school meals will be donated by their partner companies to children in need.
Their partner companies include food companies like Genji, Nishiki, San-J, Yamamotoyama, MIsuzu, OtaJoy, Benton, Onigilly, and Marukome. Appliance and cookware companies like Zojirushi, Toiro Kitchen and Hanada will also give support. Academic institutions like Udemy and Sushi Chef Institute will also help out, together with Hana Japanese market. JCC Fund and JCAW Foundation are also partners in this noble project.
Those who would want to help but are not fond of social media can also upload their photos on the project’s official site. Participating through their website also gives people a chance to join the Best of the best Onigiri contest. The most appealing photos can win any of these 6 trophies: the “Wow” location award, the Halloween award, the smile award, the most creative award, the kids' award and the best story award. Winners will be chosen by TFT and will be notified through email after December 1.
Last year, the project was able to deliver 25,000 school meals to those in need. Let’s spread more love this year, with the help of our most-craved rice ball, onigiri.
