Zori are the traditional Japanese sandals, usually worn with kimonos or yukatas. During the ancient times, these slippers are made of rice straw or dried leaves or other materials from plants.
Modern zoris are now made of plastic or rubber and other materials that are easily found today. However, these kinds of zoris are considered less formal than the zoris made from fabric or brocade.
Men's modern zoris are distinguished because of their soles, usually made or cork or foam.
Hanao is the term used to refer to the thongs of the zori.
