The all-new Subaru Impreza stole the limelight as it grabbed the crown at the 37th Car of the Year (COTY) event held at the Tokyo International Exchange Center, Odaiba, Japan..
The Subaru Impreza got a total of 420 votes from a panel of 59 judges. It was the second time Subaru won the trophy of the Car of the Year Award. Impreza was able to beat the Toyota Prius with 371 votes, and the Audi A4 series with 149 votes.
The COTY Japan organization is composed of 59 jurors, each giving around 25 votes. These judges should give 10 votes to their highest-rated vehicles, while the remaining 15 votes can be spread out to any 4 cars of their choice. The jurors are required to vote for 5 cars, out of the final 10.
Impreza is the first model of the new Subaru Global Platform, which aims to offer “enjoyment and peace of mind” to its drivers and passengers. Impreza is available in two body styles, the sedan and hatchback.
This fifth generation of Subaru Impreza is known for its safety technology. It has an EyeSight safety system and it is also the first Japanese car produced with a pedestrian protection airbag technology that is available in Japan.
Last year, a Subaru Impreza was spotted, with a body painted with an animated series. Decorating cars in Japan is called Itasha .
