The Spamusement Park in in Beppu, Japan finally opened last July 29, 2017.
Last November 20, 2016, the Mayor of Beppu, Yasuhiro Nagano released a promotional video and promised that the said onsen or hot spring amusement park will be built when the promotional video reached 1 million views. The video went viral and hit 1.3 million views in just four days.
After few months of waiting, with a little help from crowdfunding, the Spamusement Park named Uenchi, is now a reality. It is located in the city of Beppu, Oita Prefecture. The city is well-known for their spas and hot spring destinations.
Just like what was seen on the promotional video, the park’s rides have a built-in bath tubs filled with bubbles made from hot spring water. They use this instead of water for safety precautions. It is not included in the park’s rules to visit the park wearing only towels. People can wear normal clothes or they may also choose to imbibe the onsen spirit of the towels.
Uenchi Spamusement Park has rides such as Onsen Bubble Jet Roller Coaster, Onsen Merry-Go-Round, Splash Glider, and Gale-Force Wind Dryer Chairs.
Only those people who pledged 8,000 yen during the crowdfunding were allowed to enter from July 29-31. The city officials expected 12,000 people to visit the park during its 3-day operation.
