Foo Fighters and Rick Astley’s performance highlighted this year’s Summer Sonic in Japan, held simultaneously last August 19 and 20 in two prefectures: Chiba, in Zozo Marine Stadium and Makuhari Messe and Osaka, in Maishima Sonic Park in Osaka.
The crowd had gone wild when two performers rocked the Marine tage with a mash-up of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” with Rick Astley’s song “Never Gonna Give You Up”.
Also, the performance of Japan’s very own kawaii metal band, Babymetal, has all the winning elements that made their rock set in Marine stage one of the highlights of the event.
The viral genius, Pikotaro was the opening act on the first day of the event at Zozo Marine Stadium. It was followed by the performances of Calvin Harris, Black Eyed Peas, 5 Seconds of Summer, UVERworld, Charlie XCX, CL, Jose James, Hey Violet, and many more.
Together with Foo Fighters, bands like Man with a Mission, Royal Blood, All Time Low, Inaba/Salas, Circa Waves, The Struts, and other guest artists set up the mood in Maishima Sonic Park in Osaka.
