Bons-AI is the smart bonsai plant, a concept for TDK’s Attracting Tomorrow project. The Japanese electronic components company envisions a future that transforms today’s impossible into tomorrow’s reality. The Bons-AI is a part of the initiative, a design showcasing the combination of technology and nature. 

Using cutting edge technology, TDK recently released the second part of its project, Bons-AI. The new concept product is not just a plant, it also serves as a pet, even a friend. With its artificial intelligence and interactive components, the miniature tree is not just for decoration as it also gives you an ear. It offers emotional support by citing famous quotations served as ‘life advices’. The innovative fusion of traditional Japanese culture into the latest technologies makes the Bons-AI a product to look forward to. 

The BonsAI has multiple features: a soil sensor to measure the soil’s dryness, a compact camera for movement control, an LED panel that expresses its ‘emotions’ and a speaker that offers quotations from famous people. It also has 9 axis sensors for stable movement control, film solar cell that serves as illuminance sensor and power supply, wireless power supply for cable-less charging and a base that houses electric components and microcomputer. According to TDK, the Bons-AI weighs over 20kg, but the actual product is still at its concept stage with no official release date.
