Zao fox village (Miyagi Zao Fox village) is the country's largest fox-themed zoo that is filled with more than a hundred foxes. The place spans 18, 000 square feet located in the Shiroishi city outskirts. The foxes comprise platinum fox, the rare silver fox, platinum gold fox, and red fox. The animal-sanctuary is open to the public although non-are totally tamed and thus touching them inside the enclosure is not allowed. On the other hand, visitors, are free to go inside and mingle with foxes.

In Japanese folklore and mythology, foxes are among the popular topics. The animals are regarded with respect and believed to possess the power of shape-shifting to man form and other magical abilities. Admission is 10, 000 yen or $10 USD.
