The Nikko Toshogu Shrine is a worship place for Shinto located in Tochi Prefecture. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. One of the shrine's main attractions is the Yomeimon Gate.
After four years of extensive repairs, the gate was reopened to the public on March 10 of this year. It is designated as a national treasure, and is considred to be one of the most beautiful gates in Japan. The gate is also known as "Higurashi-no-mon" which means "Gate of the Setting Sun". It's elaborate gold decorations will never tire you of seeing it even as the sun sets.
