On this photograph, a part of the Yama-dera or Mountain temple can be seen covered with snow on a cliff, as the rest of Yamagata Prefecture is covered with fog.
Yama-dera, or the Mountain Temple, is a nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty and Historic Site. Located in Yamagata Prefecture, the area is named from the temple of Risshaku-ji. Risshaku-ji is actually a branch temple of Enryaku-ji, which sits on top of Mt. Hiei. This mountain can be found near Kyoto. In fact, there is a ritual fire brought from Enryaku-ji to Yama-dera. And this ritual fire is still burning in Yamagata up to the present time.
