The Watari Museum of Contemporary Art, commonly known as Watari-um, is a private art gallery that exhibits modern art. The museum was designed for the Watari family in 1990 by Mario Botta. It holds four exhibitions a year focusing on artists who work around the world. It is one of the major contemporary visual arts institutions in Japan, along with the Mori Arts Center and the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art. Compared to the other two museums, this is smaller giving the viewers a more intimate atmosphere with the art. The museum is open from 11AM to 7PM, except on Wednesdays.
