Also known as the Usa Jingu or the Usa Hachimangu, this is a shrine dedicated to Emperor Ojin, or his deity name, Hachiman-jin. He has been the Shinto God of Warriors. He was said to be enshrined inside Usa, located at Oita Prefecture. It was said that Usa Shrine had been founded as early as the Nara period of Japan. In 779, a Buddhist temple, called the Miroku-ji, was constructed beside the area. The friendly relationship between Shinto and Buddhism existed for over a millenioum, until 1868, when the Kami and Buddhas Separation Act was passed.
