The Umimirai library may look like a cake box from afar, but upon closer inspection you will see its complex details. The building has 6,000 holes filled with translucent glass on its exterior. The holes were made as windows which would allow daylight to enter the library and brighten the area. At night, on the other hand, the windows look more like the windows of a ship. 

The reading room has a 40-foot ceiling and a modern interior with combined halls and meeting rooms wherein visitors are encouraged to have a social engagement with one another.  

The design was made for the visitors to feel like they are in another place and time, similar to the feeling you get when reading books.  The Umimirai Library has a unique and modern concept that will make you feel like you are in the future.

Now you can read in, literally, a creative space.
