The Tsujunkyo Bridge in Kumamoto Prefecture is more of a 19th century irrigation system than a bridge. It was created during the time when the local farmers of the Shiraito fields were having a water crisis. It was the time when the water coming from the peaks and valleys of the area were not really going into the fields for sufficient irrigation. In the year 1854, Yasunosuke Futa, the Yamato village official of the time, invented the aqueduct for pumping water into the fields, which is now known as the Tsujunkyo Bridge.
