Museums are a great way to learn more about a country or a region. 

A popular purpose of museums is to revisit history. For this Tokyo National Museum, Nezu Museum and the Edo-Tokyo Museum are perfect. Tokyo National Museum is one of the oldest and largest Japanese national art museums. Nezu Museum, on the other hand, is a private collection of pre-modern Japanese art that includes paintings and calligraphy. Finally, the Edo-Tokyo Museum includes a collection of buildings from the 17th to the 20th century. 

Meanwhile, for contemporary art, the Mori Art Museum, the National Art Center, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum are top choices.  There is also a National Museum of Western Art, which showcases art pieces following the Western tradition. The building itself is even Tokyo's first World Cultural heritage site.
