Tojinbo Cliff is a place rich in myth and beauty. It was formed after a volcanic eruption happened about 12 to 13 million years ago. Now, it boasts a rocky coastline that created a beautiful sight of the raging waves as it touches the rocks.
This series of rock formation is located in the northern part of Mikuni-cho in Sakai, Fukui Prefecture which also serves as the main tourist attraction of the place.
The Tojinbo Cliff is also rich in myth. There's a legend that warned you to watch your step as you explore the rocky trail. There is a monk, whose name is Tojinbo, who was disliked by everyone. He fell from the cliff as the locals who disliked him dragged him from his temple and threw him on the edge. His death, as the legend says, caused a lot of strong storms. It ends after a memorial service was held for him.
