The Okinawa Prefecture in Japan is not only known for its white sand beaches and crystal clear turquoise waters. Okinawa also has a famous spot known for its stones.

Located in the town of Kumejima in the Shimajiri district, the tatami-ishi, or literally "tatami stones," is best enjoyed during low tide, when the stones can expose their one-of-a-kind pentagonal or hexagonal shapes. The rocks are normally around one to 1.5 meters in diameter each, lining around 250 meters of the coastline of the Kumejima Prefectural Natural Park.

It was names as such because they resemble the tatami mats lining the floors of traditional Japanese houses.
