In the city of Asago, you can find the ruins of the beautiful Takeda Castle being surrounded by clouds. It is sometimes referred to as the "Machu Picchu of Japan" and as the "castle floating in the sky. The ruined castle has a very deserving spot in Japan's Top 100 Castles.
The Takeda Castle was originally built in the year 1411. It was conquered by Toyotomi Hideyoshi but had to abandon the castle after the castle's forces fought against the Tokugawa clan in 1600. Nature took over and the castle gradually disintegrated but in the 1970s, the ruins were restored and has opened as a tourist spot.
It is best to visit the area in the months of October and November around 6:00-6:30 AM for it is the time when the clouds are visible from the viewpoints.
