Takayama, Japan - The city lies in the geographical centre of the country. It's near in the cities and towns of Kanazawa, Matsumoto, Gujo and Katsuyama. The city is situated in the Gifu - a mountainous prefecture. Takayama is known for a number of attractions such as:
1. Yoshijima Heritage House - A small museum built in 1879 for a business family. It houses local crafts and food station where you'll be served with green tea and rice cracker.
2. Kamikochi - In the northeast of Takayama, is the Japanese alps called Kamikochi. The place is reminiscent of alps found in Switzerland and Scandinavian countries. Visiting the place, you'll be greeted with the majestic view of crystal clear water, lined with temperate trees and vegetation and a mountain covered with snow akin to a fine talc powder covering a jagged landscape.
3. Hida no Sato - West of Takayama Station is the Village called Hida no Sato that features park surrounded by lush vegetation and a pond.
4. Higashiyama Walkway or Higashiyama Yuhodo - This place is known for steps leading to the best view of Japan Alps.
5. Sanmachi Suji - If you're looking for the traditional and old streets, this place is a must to visit. Sanmachi Suji preserves wooden buildings that date back to the Edo period (1603-1698). You can also visit some museums, restaurants, craft shops and galleries.
