Tokyo is Japan's most urbanized city, but it doesn't necessarily mean that it doesn't have revered Buddhist temples.
The Sensoji Temple is located in the district of Asakusa in Taito Ward. Being Tokyo's oldest temple, the establishment was initially associated with the Tendai sect of Buddhism, which is the Japanese school that focuses on Mahayana Buddhism. After the World War II, the temple became independent from Tendai. The temple's main guardian is Guanyin, the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy.
The place is just near another religious area, the Asakusa Shrine, which is a Shinto shrine.
