Sakura in Japan has always been associated to the season of spring. However, in Obara village in the Aichi prefecture, kouyou or the autumn colors are not only red and gold. Autumn in Obara also means sakura.
Called the "shikizakura" or the "four-seasons sakura," they are special variety of the tree which blooms not only once, but twice a year. The first one is of course during spring. The second one is when the lush pinkness of sakura blends in the red colors of Aichi autumn.
It was said that this variety has been in japan in as early as the 1800s, when the trees filled one of the sacred temples of Nagoya.
