The Saga Prefecture of Japan is not only famous for its ceramics and potteries. It also has the most spectacular hot air balloon festival in the whole of the Land of the Rising Sun.
The Saga International Balloon Fiesta, held every start of November along the Kase River, actually originated in another prefecture, in Fukuoka. In 1978, it started out as a small event in the city of Amagi. The popularity of the event increased in such a short time that in 1980, the management transferred the event to the nearby Saga Prefecture where there is a bigger area to hold the balloons.
