If you want to experience a different night life, then you should go to the Pontocho, the old entertainment district in Kyoto.  It is considered to be the oldest surviving night life in Japan.

This offers a place to stroll most especially in the early evening. Though it is a perfect place to chill out and relax, it is also known for the high prices of the commodities. Also, there are a lot of establishments that need reservation. Some are exclusive for the elite and known people in the society, while there are others which accept reservations by phone.
