In the eastern side of Central Osaka is where you can find one of Japan's most famous icons, the Osaka Castle. The whole area is picturesque having a 9-storey main tower that is surrounded by the Nishinomaru Garden, stone walls and secondary citadels.
The castle is known for the tragedies it had gone through. It was built in the year 1583 but was destroyed in 1615. Shortly after, it was rebuilt by Tokugawa Hidetada but got burnt down when it was struck by lightning in 1655. Almost 3 centuries later, in 1931, it was rebuilt with a traditional exterior and a modern interior.
It is recommended that you take the subway or city bus to get there. Just go to the Tanimachi 4-chrome Station along the Tanimachi or Chuo Subway Line.
The castle tower is open from 9:00-17:00. Admission is 600 yen.
