The Oita Prefectural Art Museum is actually different from the nearby Oita City Museum. Opened in April 2015, the magnificent designs of the museum, both indoor and outdoor can actually be considered as art already. Designed by Japanese architect Ban Shigeru, he incorporated his renowned style of making use of cardboards and papers in all his designs. According to him, most of the museums are merely closed boxes of cultural jewels, with the public not really knowing what kind of specimens are inside. This was why he did the design to be already considered as an artwork by itself.
