Who could have known you can find a modern building in the deep woods? But that's just Japan in a nutshell-full of surprises.
The Naoshima Contemporary Art Museum is on the Naoshima island surrounded by deep woods, rugged rocks and the beach. Between all the wood, the trees and a body of water, the museum looked sharp with its stone and solid materials. Different geometric shapes complemented with the nature of the place.
Main galleries, a restaurant as well as a hotel can be visited in the area which can be reached by taking the JR Uno Line to Uno. From Uno, take the ferry to Miyanoura, and you'll be on the main port of Naoshima.
