Kumamoto Prefecture's Mount Aso is said to be Japan's largest active volcano to date. Its caldera measures a massive 25 kilometers in diameter, with over 100 kilometers of circumference. The area is a part of the natural reserves of Aso Kuju National Park.
The mountain has been too massive that it has five peaks: Neko, Taka, Naka, Eboshi and Kishima. The highest of all the summits is Taka, measuring around 1592 meters above sea level. Naka is the one most accessible, with a road going straight to the summit. Neko is the peak that has been active for the last 70 years, with the last eruption happening in 2016.
