One of the oldest temples in Kyoto Prefecture, the Mimurotoji Temple is located in the hills of the city of Uji. Said to have been established around 1200 years ago, the place is also known in Japan as the "flower temple," because of the beautiful flower lawns that bear flowers blooming on different seasons: sakura or cherry blossoms in April, azaleas in May, lotuses from July to August, and kouyou or autumn colors from November.
The main hall of the Mimurotoji Temple houses the sacred image of the Kannon Bodhisattva, the Goddess of Mercy.
