Meiji Jingu Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Shibuya, Tokyo. The shrine was built in 1920, but was destroyed during the Second World War and was rebuilt quickly after. The shrine is dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and his wife, Empress Shoken.
Entering Meiji Jingu Shine will make you experience the quick transition from the busy city-life to the serenity of the forest through its large torii gate upon entering the main complex of shrine buildings.
The shrine gets a massive number of visitors especially during the New Year, where at least three million people came to visit. But apart from that, Meiji Jingu Shine offers a scenic setting for a traditional Shinto wedding.
The Meiji Jingu Treasure House can also be found on the ground shrines where the personal belongings of the Emperor and Empress are displayed.
