Also known as the Crow Castle, the Matsumoto Castle has been known all over Japan for its black exterior, which is perfectly complimented by the red bridge nearby. Located in the mountainous city of Matsumoto in Nagano Prefecture, this structure is a hirayamajiro castle, a kind of Japanese castles which are constructed on plains or meadowns instead of on top of the mountains.
Because the present-day Matsumoto Castle remains to be made of wood, it gives a different kind of experience to travelers who have been to other Japanese castles presently made of concrete.
