Watch as a netizen captures a video of the rare ‘Omiwatari’ or ‘God’s Crossing’ at the frozen Lake Suwa in Nagano Prefecture. 

The Omiwatari is a natural ice ridge phenomenon, believed to be God’s footsteps. According to folklore, it is made when the guardian god of Suwa walks on the frozen lake to meet his wife, a goddess of the shrine on the opposite shore. 

The natural wonder is a sign of extreme winter, an awe-inspiring event as the snaking line of cracked ice in the surface of the frozen Lake Suwa is said to bring good omen for the coming year. 

This experience is described as ‘surreal’, especially as the ‘Path of God’ became more infrequent in the passing years due to global warming.
