The Nakagin Capsule Tower was built in 1972. It was designed by Kisho Kurokawa who envisioned the building as an apartment that has individual units as rooms that can be pulled out and replaced when needed. Today, it is being used both as a residential and office tower. It 's the first capsule architecture in the world with 140 plug n' play capsules. The micro apartment units measure 4 x 2.5 meters
As of the year 2015, only around 40 units are still being used. The rest are unoccupied and are just being allowed to deteriorate.
It is located in Shimbashi, Tokyo, Japan.
