Being the old capital of the Land of the Rising Sun, the Kyoto Imperial Palace has since been the official residence of the royal family until 1868, in accordance to the transfer of the capital to the prefecture of Tokyo. The inauguration of Emperor Taisho and Emperor Showa were actually still held in the Kyoto Imperial Palace.
The place is situated in the now Kyoto Imperial Park, which also houses the Sento Imperial Palace. The place had been sacred that before, the place can only be accessed throught guided package tours that should had been booked way in advance. Now, they made the place more accessible to the public, but the buildings can only be enjoyyed from the outside.
