Being a seat of some of Japan's most noted UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Moss Temple of Kyoto Prefecture sure is not your usual Zen temple from the Land of theRising Sun. Also known as Saihoji, or more commonly known as the Kokedera, the place has been named as such because of 120 different varietis of moss that dwell in the vast gardens of the said temple. The area was said to have been dedicated to be a luxury ownership of Prince Shotoku. During the Nara period of Japan, the villa was turned into a temple. A priest name Muso Soseki has been credited to design the gardens and to use moss in the Kokedera.
