Lying on the Pacific Rim of Fire, the Land of the Rising Sun has not been free from the wrath of the Earth.
It was just a normal day, the sun was just about to rise. It was supposed to be just a normal morning when at 5:46AM, the Great Hanshin Awaji Earthquake struck the city of Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture. It happened on January 17, 1995, taking more than 5000 lives and destroying thousands of homes and other establishments.
In 2002, the Kobe Earthquake Memorial Museum was opened to remember all those who gave their lives, because of the great disaster. The museum was also established to educated the travelers and the public about earthquakes.
