Continuing the legacy of the Kyoto Prefecture as the crowning glory of old Japan, the Kiyomizu-dera is a Buddhist temple not belonging to any sect of the religion. Officially known as the Otowa-san Kiyomizu-dera, the temple has proved its place in the world when it garnered a lot of titles over the years. It has been hailed as the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto. It has also been written under the UNESCO World Heritage List. In 2007, it has been one of the candidates for the New 7 wonders of the world.
