Kodokan is the largest Han school, feudal domain, in the Edo period in Japan. It was established in 1842 by the ninth feudal lord of the Mito domain, Nariaki Tokugawa. The school's admission was at age 15 wherein the curriculum had 9 subjects. In 1872, the school closed when the new school system was introduced and had to be implemented. It has also been damaged in the year 2011 due to the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami.
Additionally, the last shogun named Yoshinobu Tokugawa studied at this school in his early childhood. You can easily get around Mito by taking a super hitachi express from Ueno station to Mito.
