The Nara prefecture is not only known for its deer. It also has its own set of one of a kind temples.
The Horyuji Temple is located in the town of Ikaruga, district of Ikoma in Nara prefecture. It is known for many names: Horyu Gakumonji, Learning Temple of the Flourishing Law or simply the Temple of the Flourishing Law. It has been attached the word "learning" because it is actually both a Buddhist seminary and monastery.
In 1993, the Horyuji, together with its all-wooden pagoda, has been acknowledged as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, under the category of Buddhist Monuments in the Horyuji area.
