The Higashi-Honganji Temple is a combination of two Buddhist temples in the Kyoto Prefecture. The first temple is named the Higashi Honganji. The second is named Nishi Honganji, constructed by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1591, when the main temple was destroyed by Oda Nobunaga. The Higashi-Honganji belongs to the Jodo-Shin Sect of Buddhism, of the True Pure Land Sect. It was said that the sect had been interfering with politics, so Oda Nobunaga had no choice but to destroy it.
One of the main attractions of the temple is the Amidao Hall, which is dedicated to Amida Buddha.
