Hell on earth is a pleasant place to be, if it’s in Beppu in Japan.
Beppu is a resort filled to the brim with onsen or hot springs. In fact, it produces more hot spring water than any other resort in Japan! It is most famous for its eight “hells” that are a sight to behold because of their blue and red colors. But be careful where you dip, the eight hot springs are more apt for your eyes only, as they reach 50-99.5° Celsius.
Some of the eight “hells” have quirky names and characteristics as well. “Blood Pond Hell” is an orange colored onsen due to the presence of magnesium oxide and iron oxide. “Ocean Hell” earned its name due to its bright blue color, making it seem more like a cool ocean rather than a scalding hot spring. Meanwhile, the “Demon Mountain Hell” houses a large number of crocodiles on its grounds.
Looks like in Beppu, hell is a pretty awesome place to be.
