Gion District is a historic area in Kyoto city, close to the sizzle of the downtown Kyoto and located between the downtown and the Yasaka Shrine. In olden times this place was used as a place to relax by the travelers to Kyoto city and Yasaka Shrine. The old charms still remain but now it has become more commercial with many drinking/eating establishments, Geisha houses and even Pachinko Parlors. But it is one of the most visited places in Kyoto city and reminds the visitors of the by gone charm of the ancient Kyoto city
