The Fushimi Inari Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Fushimi-ku, Southern Kyoto. The shrine can be found at the base of Mt. Inari which is 233 metres above sea level. The Romon Gate, which was donated in 1589, will welcome the visitors upon their arrival at the shrine's entrance. The gate is also called as the "tower gate. " Behind the Romon, stands the Honden, the shrine's main building. At the back of the main shrine, stands a parallel rows of gate called Senbon Torii, meaning "thousands of torii gates" in Japanese. Similarly, these gates were donations of different individuals or organizations whose names can be found inscribed on the back of each gate.
