Those types of residential areas (which is called 住宅街: meaning residents-town) are very typical in Japan, and it's often that each house stands even 1-2 m close to each other. From my room, though my house is not in a really typical 住宅街 like the "Homest Town" in this video, I could jump into the next house's room if the window is opened.
