This is CAT ISLAND! (Well, Tashirojima Island). You can get to it from Ishinomaki port, northeast of Sendai. It's located in Miyagi prefecture, west of Oshika Peninsula. Before the cat population boomed, the cats were brought there to control the mice population. Humans who are the minority of the islands living population live on fishing. There's also some cat-themed cottages and artwork made by manga artists.

How to get there

First, you have to take a JR line train or bus from Tokyo to Ishinomaki city. And then from Ishinomaki City, you have to go to Ishinomaki Station by bus that will take you to Ajishmia Line ferry terminal (fare is 1000 yen). Ride a ferry towards Tashirojima island. The trip will take about 45-60 minutes.
