It is just a small island lying off the coast of the city of Ishinomaki in Miyagi Prefecture. Lying in the Pacific Ocean side of Japan, it is located exactly at Oshika Peninsula, somewhere West of Aijishima. The island has a minute number of human beings living in it. But what's more surprising about Tashirojima is that the cat population is more than the human population. The human beings in the island has been nurturing the cats for the belief that good luck will come their way. Because of this, the island has came to be known as Tashirojima Cat Island or simply Cat Island.
