Tokyo may be a pretty expensive city, but Japan apparently was able to provide affordable yet comfortable lodgings for travelers on a budget.
Introducing the Capsule Hotels of Japan. These fiber glass blocks are just around 2 by 1 by 1.25 m (6 ft 7 in by 3 ft 3 in by 4 ft 1 in) big. Definitely not for claustrophobics, the concept is credited to Kisho Kurokawa of the Capsule Inn Osaka, which has been built in the Umeda district of Osaka Prefecture in 1979.
