In this video, Hannah shared the 6 apps that she used while she is staying in Japan that will make your life easier once you travel to Japan. The apps were divided into three categories: language, travel or navigation, and food.
On language, she recommended Google translate where you can just take a photo of the word that you want to be translated with your phone. You can just swipe your finger on the text you want to translate. It also has an add-on where you can have a live translation. The other one is Imiwa, an offline app which translates words not only in English but also in other languages. It also has examples of how to write a word.
On travel and navigation apps, she recommended Google map as it has all the train timetables and the exact time of the train departure. You can also know the establishment or restaurants near you. The only downside of Google map is that you can’t use it without an internet connection. The other one is Hyperdia which gives you the right way to get to a certain place. It can also tell you the exact price and if you’ll get a reserved seat or unreserved seat.
Lastly, on food, she recommended GuruNavi where you can find the type of food, price, or if you want English-speaking staffs. The only downside of this app is you can’t search for vegetarian food which gives way to her next recommendation, the HappyCow where you can look for vegetarian food, however, it costs $5.99.
