Usually mistaken with the kimono, the yukata is actually a more casual traditional Japanese dress. Unlike the kimono which is usually made of silk and other fine garments, the yukata is made of cotton or any similar fabric which is synthetically-made. The garment used for yukata needed to be as light and comfortable as possible because the dress is worn every summer in Japan. The yukata has a similar cut from the kimono, usually with straight seams and wide sleeves. Men's yukatas are distinguishable from women's yukatas. The sleeves for the men are slightly shorter.
