Yayoi Festival is one of Japan's major events that graced the formal opening of Spring Season in the country. It usually takes place at the mountainous town of Nikko. It takes two hours via train ride from Tokyo to reach the smallest city in Japan's Tochigi Prefecture.
Yayoi Festival is derived from the name of the third month of the old lunar calendar. It is running for over 1,200 years already. Usually, they pull decorative floats up to the Futurasan Shrine which enshrines the deities of the local mountains. And during nighttime, they light up lanterns that are on them. This is where musicians do their part by playing drums and flutes.
